Think carefully. Return to life.
I am Erick Machado, also known as Erick Sullivan: a Philosophy undergraduate at UniCesumar researching philosophy as a way of life and therapeutic practice, with an ICETI undergraduate research scholarship.
Eight years as an integrative practitioner support my experience of listening. Today, philosophical inquiry is at the centre: what we think, how we live, and the relationships between our ideas, desires and suffering.
Philosophy as a Way of Life: spiritual exercises, philosophical therapy and existential transformation
A theoretical, qualitative, bibliographical and exploratory undergraduate research project supported by an ICETI scholarship. Pierre Hadot and Martha Nussbaum form its central framework, in dialogue with philosophical traditions and contemporary questions of self-care.
The aim is not a universal recipe for happiness. It is to investigate how arguments, reading, dialogue, writing and everyday exercises can contribute to working through suffering and creating meaning while preserving rigour, individuality and autonomy. Academic affiliation does not imply institutional endorsement or validation of the sessions.
Quando o suficiente nunca é suficiente: Epicuro, Marx e a vida sob o imperativo da produtividade
Erick Machado. A dialogue between the limits of desire and the social relations that make rest difficult. Thinking about life also requires thinking about the world in which it unfolds.

For more than two years, every Friday, people with different backgrounds gathered to philosophise about life.
This meeting place was a workshop of lived experience: sustained listening, questioning and respectful encounters between perspectives. It helped form important foundations for the therapeutic philosophy method now in development.
This is the history of a shared practice, not a clinical trial. Its contribution lies in experiencing how conversation can open questions that we might not formulate alone.
